A recent trip to Sicily—and a few great meals—inspired these images. On a visit to a church in Castlebuono Sicily I was overwhelmed with the wonderful 17th century frescos. I spent an afternoon photographing them, knowing I wanted do something new and different with this exciting find. In a museum I also photographed a page from an old Italian recipe book, simply because the lettering struck my fancy.

Returning home, I took one of the angel figures from the fresco scene and put it onto my own background piece of a wall from an ancient building. The angel was holding a tablet, but the words on the tablet had worn away, so I added the spaghetti recipe I had photographed. (Don't ask me, "Why spaghetti?"—it was pure inspiration). This composition then lead me to other figure images, matched to other recipes from a book borrowed from an Italian artist friend

My Freso production process: Composite images were printed with ultrachrome inks onto a special film. I made my own frescos from a plaster mix applied to maple boards , then transferred the images from film to damp plaster. And presto, there you have it: my own marriage of the culinary arts and the photographic arts!

p.s. My title loosely translates to "Frescos in Good Taste"
